Ceramics and pottery are a definitive part of the identity in the city of Boleslawiec, Poland.  The town is known as Miasto Ceramiki (Town of ceramics).  It is impossible to talk about the town without talking about the ceramics that have been produced there for over a thousand years. Potters and ceramic artists are on record from as early as the 14th century, with the first written record of a potter in the municipal books of Świdnica in 1380.  It is a matter of great pride to the inhabitants.  The geopraphy lends itself to ceramic work as it is rich in natural clay deposits.  The clay is plentiful and of extremely high quality. Having a high feldspar and silicon content.  Fired at extremely high temperatures, around 1100-1300 degrees Celsius.  Pieces are hand-cast in gypsum  molds, formed on potter's wheel and hand finished.  All products are crafted to the strictest quality standards in accordance with international standards.  Most of the pottery that comes from Polish Boleslawiec is produced by the CPLiA cooperative and the many artists that work under it, either in pottery's or smaller studios. Many of the individual artists do their own work. Boleslawiec  Pottery is renowned for unique designs drawing from over 700 years of Polish, German and Czech tradition.  This pottery is a treasure to own and enjoy.
